The Ex-Chartered Bank Building is one of the historic building assets owned by Bank Mandiri. The building was constructed in 1921 on a 2,279 m² plot of land, during a period when trade in the Dutch East Indies was rapidly growing, with Eduard Cuypers (1859–1927) as the architect. Originally, this building served as the branch office of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China in Batavia.

Design Approach

  1. To coordinate with the Wiratman structural team in preparing a structural strengthening methodology without damaging the architectural elements.
  2. To collaborate with PDA in studying the history and the main design elements of the bank building.
  3. Coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Cultural Office and carry out the TPA (Heritage Expert Team) review session.

Design Proceess

  1. Establish the revitalization concept after understanding the cultural value and architectural elements of the bank building. As the team responsible for identifying the architectural elements, Bagan proposes protection methods, restoration items, and development plans.
  2. Responding to safety and building utility issues, to ensure the building can operate properly, we propose utility room areas that are easily accessible for maintenance and integrated with the architectural and interior elements, such as the installation of manholes and flood barriers.
  3. Prepare the finishing plan for the main façade, wall elements, windows, fences, roof, and interior elements.including the restoration plan for colors and materials of the floors, ceilings, and walls.
