F1H2O Venue Balige

F1H2O Competition is a water sport event that was held in Balige, North Sumatra. To support the competition, a team consisting of various parties including architecture, landscape, MEP, strucure was assigned to develop the venue design. In this project, some of Bagan staffs participated as architectural team to develop a design of masterplan and small buildings. Located on the side of Toba Lake, the venue had to represent the area’s local culture while at the same time supporting the sport event

Design Approach

1. To understand the requirement for the F1H2O venue based on the study of the client’s documents and discussion
2. To conduct research and comprehend the local context of Toba Lake as well as the existing condition of the site, including the regulations and environmental aspects. Understanding the local culture around Toba Lake, especially the one is North Sumatra, is important to design an area that shall represent the local area’s culture.
3. To build a strong coordination with project teams, F1H2O committee, PUPR, government parties, local communities, and contractors to ensure the project runs smoothly. Coordination is important since the timeline of this project was strictly decided to be finished in 3 months.

Design Proceess

1. To incorporate the resources from the venue requirements, local culture elements, and existing environmental conditions into the final design concept.
2. To apply North Sumatra’s traditional culture, especially architectural culture, to the venue development. In this case, the architecture team proposes to build a Sopo Bolon within the venue area as a multipurpose space. It shall be connected with other facilities, such as the toilet and warehouse.
3. Since we need to transform the Sisingamaharaja field to a space that can accommodate F1H2O’s needs, the consultants had to ensure that the concrete pavement on the field to be rigid and strong enough for trucks and their containers. The same case also shall apply to the dock that needs to restrain the crane’s weight.
4. In the future, this area shall be under the local government’s care. To maintain its condition, after coordinating with PUPR and other consultants, a fence and wall shall be built around the area.
