Jami Al Mansur mosque, located in Tambora, is well-known as a religious tourism spot for the historical graveyard. Enriched by its cultural significants, which are four grand Soko Guru pillars, its Tumpang Tiga roof, and the minaret, this mosque has supported the neighborhood around it as community mosque. In 2021 Dinas Kebudayaan DKI Jakarta assigned Bagan to revitalize the mosque to improve its quality as a historical tourism spot in Jakarta.
Design Approach
- To research about mosque’s cultural significances in order to understand which part of the mosque that need to be preserved its originality.
- To study and apply Habluminannas and Habluminallah Values as main concept of the revitalization. Bagan attempted to develop new values by elaborating Habluminannas (the relationship between human and human) and Habluminallah (the relationship between human and Allah).
- To propose new programs that will support Jami Al Mansur mosque as religious tourism spot.
Design Proceess
- Heritage Building’s ValuesTo revitalize Jami Al Mansur Mosque, Bagan attempt to emphasize heritage building’s values that the mosque already had, such as aesthetic, symbolic, and social values. We shall preserve the prominent parts of the building, such as Soko Guru, Tumpang Tiga Roof, the minaret, as well as the doors and windows that have original pattern representing cultural elements from the past. Bagan shall design the additional new buildings with the simpler facade design, so that it will act as a background of the Tumpang Tiga roof and minaret. Hopefully it will emphasize the prominence of the building cultural significances.
- Habluminannas and Habluminallah Values Based on the study about the local context around the mosque, we shall propose to design the open space at perimeter of the mosque as well as adding the multifunctional room on the second floor. This proposal was made to facilitate the mosque as community mosque.
- Mosque as Religous Tourism SpotWe shall propose new programs, such as museum, library, and visitor center within the building.
