In 2019, Bagan was commissioned to design the new facilities comprise of the main office and factory of a bird nest processing company. The client is the biggest exporter for the years 2017&2018 in the bird nest industry. They have received many awards and certifications. Our main goal is to design a building that is not only focused on the functionality but also the aesthetic of the mass and facade.
Design Approach
- To understand the site condition, which is located within a packed area of shop houses in Medan. The site is located at the perimeter of Medan city, so itis close to a residential area as the site is located at the back. This condition will be taken into account during design development when we develop the massing.
- To study and understand the process of factory operation daily, including the particular needs of the bird nest processing factory. There is a standard process that we follow and implement during spatial planning. We also studied the existing factory to see if there is room for improvement in the factory layout.
Design Proceess
- Responding to the site location, we attempt to ease the look by proposing the greenery facade treatment on some parts of the building. From the front area, the office facade will be represented by a glass curtain and some greenery as well.
- From coordination with the client and the study of the program of the existing factory, we develop the diagram that will later become our guideline when we start the design. We have to ensure all activities, either human or for production, are in order, and no standards are being compromised.
